The World Health Organization has reported 321 confirmed cases of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo, along with 116 additional suspected cases. WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier disclosed these figures to reporters in Geneva, highlighting the ongoing challenges in containing the outbreak.
Current Situation in Congo
According to the latest WHO data, there have been 41 deaths attributed to Ebola in Congo, while six patients have recovered. The outbreak continues to pose a significant public health threat, with health workers on the ground working to trace contacts and isolate cases.
Uganda Reports Cases
In neighboring Uganda, the situation is also concerning. Lindmeier confirmed that Uganda has recorded nine confirmed Ebola cases and one associated death. This cross-border spread underscores the risk of regional transmission and the need for coordinated international response.
The WHO is collaborating with local health authorities and international partners to strengthen surveillance, community engagement, and vaccination efforts. Despite challenges such as insecurity and community mistrust, response teams are striving to contain the virus. The organization urges continued vigilance and support for affected regions to prevent further escalation of the epidemic.
