Eid Buffalo 'Donald Trump' Spared, Sent to Dhaka Zoo

DHAKA: A buffalo named after US President Donald Trump, originally destined for slaughter during Eid, has been spared after a last-minute intervention by the Bangladesh government led by Tarique Rahman. The rare albino buffalo will now be preserved and cared for at the national zoo in Dhaka, following a reported request from the US embassy.

Intervention by Government

Although the US Embassy has not issued any official comment, a source confirmed that a request was made and respected by the government. A ministry official stated, "The decision, at the last moment, was taken to spare the buffalo from sacrifice due to security concerns and the unusual level of public interest." The 700-kg rare albino buffalo, which earned its moniker due to its distinctive blond tuft, became the subject of memes and intense public discussion on social media. It is now in government custody, according to home ministry officials.

Orders from Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the buffalo be spared, the owner refunded, and the animal moved to the national zoo in Dhaka. What started as a routine Eid purchase quickly captured nationwide attention after videos of the buffalo spread across social media. Visitors poured into the farm from across the country, eager to see its signature blond fringe and surprisingly calm personality.

Owner's Reaction

"The name came from my younger brother, who spotted the resemblance," said owner Ziauddin Mridha. "The buffalo is a rare breed... it went viral on social media as it was nicknamed 'Donald Trump'. It is now at a farm and may later be kept at a zoo."

This incident highlights the unusual intersection of politics, culture, and animal welfare, drawing both local and international attention.
