Chatra: Four drug peddlers were arrested in three separate raids conducted across the district within the past 24 hours, police confirmed on Tuesday.
First Raid in Pratappur
A police team apprehended Sunil Kumar from his residence in Charakakhurd village under Pratappur police station limits late on Monday. The team recovered 83.79 kg of poppy husk, valued at Rs 12.56 lakh, concealed in six plastic sacks. Sadar sub-divisional police officer Sunny Vardhan stated that the raid was executed based on a tip-off received by Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithany regarding a large consignment of narcotics meant for smuggling into Bihar. “A special team raided the accused’s house and seized the contraband,” Vardhan added.
Second Raid in Gidhaur
In Gidhaur, Deepak Kumar was arrested with 44 grams of brown sugar, worth approximately Rs 9 lakh. Local police reported that Deepak was apprehended during a raid near Japua ground on the Chatra-Hazaribag Main Road on Tuesday. “The accused is being interrogated to trace the source of the contraband and identify other members of the trafficking network. He was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody,” said DSP headquarters Sunil Kumar Singh.
Third Raid in Paradih Forest
In another operation in Paradih forest under Sadar police station limits on Tuesday, two drug peddlers were captured with 522 grams of opium, valued at around Rs 2.5 lakh. The arrested individuals were identified as Rupesh Kumar of Hedum village under Lawalong police station and Dipanshu Kumar of Parsouni village under Itkhori police station. “Efforts are ongoing to uncover other members of the network involved in illegal drug trade,” Vardhan noted.
Two of the accused were in police custody as of Tuesday.
