A tragic incident occurred in Gorakhpur on Saturday evening when a three-year-old girl died after falling into a vessel of boiling sugar syrup. The accident took place in Bansgaon, approximately 30 kilometers from the district headquarters, where preparations were underway for a wedding ceremony scheduled for May 12.
Details of the Incident
According to locals, confectioners, including the victim's father, were busy preparing sweets for guests when the child, who was playing nearby, accidentally slipped into a large container of hot sugar syrup kept on the fire. Family members reported that the child suffered severe burns after her body was submerged in the boiling syrup. Hearing her screams, the victim's father immediately pulled her out of the vessel, sustaining burns to his hands in the process. Several others who rushed to help also suffered minor burns.
Medical Response and Outcome
The critically injured child was taken to the Community Health Centre in Bansgaon, where doctors administered primary treatment before referring her to BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur. Doctors at the medical college stated that the girl suffered more than 60 percent burn injuries and developed large blisters across her body. She was admitted to the ICU and underwent treatment for nearly four hours, but succumbed to her injuries on Saturday evening.
This heartbreaking event underscores the dangers of leaving children unsupervised near cooking areas, especially during large-scale preparations for events like weddings. The local community has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the young life.
