Patna: Governor Syed Ata Hasnain on Friday urged young scientists to work with commitment towards strengthening Bihar’s economy by addressing challenges posed by climate change and ensuring sustained agricultural production in the state.
Speaking as the chief guest at the fourth annual convocation of Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU) held at Adhivesan Bhawan, Hasnain highlighted the crucial role of animal science in supporting rural livelihoods, food security, nutrition and public health. He said animal scientists can significantly contribute to the development of the dairy and livestock sectors, which are key to Bihar’s rural economy.
State minister for dairy, fisheries and animal resources Nand Kishor Ram, governor’s secretary Gopal Meena and BASU vice-chancellor Indrajeet Singh also addressed the gathering and congratulated the graduating students.
A total of 142 students, who cleared examinations in the last academic session, were awarded degrees at the convocation. Six students received gold medals for securing top positions in their respective courses, while six scholars were awarded PhD certificates. Congratulating the graduates, the governor noted that in an agriculture-driven state like Bihar, products such as milk, eggs, fish and meat play a vital role not only in ensuring nutrition but also in improving rural incomes and empowering women. He encouraged the students to move beyond traditional employment avenues and focus on innovation, new technologies and sustainable practices to enhance agricultural and livestock productivity.
Hasnain also emphasised the need for BASU scientists to work on value addition, scientific breeding and modernisation of animal resources. He said university laboratories should evolve into innovation hubs and maintain close coordination with farmers to translate research into practical solutions at the grassroots level.
