Gurgaon Temperatures Drop Sharply; Thunderstorms, Dusty Winds Expected This Week
Gurgaon Sees Sharp Temperature Drop; Thunderstorms Likely (04.05.2026)

Gurgaon experienced a sharp decline in both minimum and maximum temperatures on Sunday, attributed to western disturbances, dust-front activity, and cyclonic circulation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of unstable conditions, thunderstorms, and gusty winds throughout the week.

The city recorded one of its coolest mornings of the season, followed by a significant dip in daytime heat. The Gurgaon KVK station logged a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius, down 2.2 degrees from Saturday, while the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) recorded 33.7 degrees Celsius, a drop of 3.2 degrees. The NorthCap University station touched 35.6 degrees Celsius, nearly 3 degrees lower than the previous day.

NorthCap recorded a minimum temperature of 22.3 degrees Celsius, down 3.8 degrees. Across Haryana, the IMD reported that average maximum temperatures fell by 3.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday and were 4.4 degrees Celsius below normal. Average minimum temperatures were also 2.6 degrees Celsius below normal.

The weather shift was linked to a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining regions, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation over Haryana. These systems have pulled moisture, cloud cover, and dust-laden winds into the plains.

Independent weather forecaster Navdeep Dahiya flagged a dust front over Haryana, Delhi, and north Rajasthan, stating that atmospheric conditions across the plains remained highly unstable and weather patterns could shift rapidly. Across Haryana, Narnaul recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 37 degrees Celsius, though even that was 2.6 degrees below normal. Many districts, including Rohtak, Hisar, Karnal, and Gurgaon, saw daytime temperatures remain well below seasonal expectations.

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds of up to 50-60 kmph, and possible hailstorm activity at isolated places on Monday. Temperatures are likely to fall further by 3 to 5 degrees in some areas.

Residents have been advised to monitor nowcasts closely as evening storm cells and dust activity may intensify quickly.
