The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in several districts of south Haryana. The alert covers areas including Rewari, Mahendragarh, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, and parts of Jhajjar and Rohtak. Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid open spaces during the storm.
Details of the Alert
The IMD's bulletin, released on Tuesday, predicts that the thunderstorm activity will likely occur in the late afternoon and evening hours. Wind speeds may reach up to 50-60 km/h, posing risks to weak structures and trees. The department has also warned of possible hailstorms in isolated pockets, which could damage crops and vehicles.
Precautionary Measures
Authorities have urged people to secure loose objects, stay away from windows, and unplug electronic appliances. Farmers have been advised to postpone irrigation and harvest activities until the weather clears. The district administrations have been put on alert to handle any emergencies arising from the storm.
The IMD further stated that the weather system is likely to move eastwards, bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave in the region. However, the sudden change in weather may cause disruptions in power supply and traffic. Citizens are encouraged to follow updates from the IMD and local authorities.
This alert comes as north India experiences a transition from summer to monsoon, with increased convective activity. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue further updates as necessary.
