The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating heavy rainfall at isolated locations over north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) on May 5 and 6. Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 50 kmph are expected at isolated places across coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP), Yanam, and Rayalaseema during the same period.
Expected Relief from Heat
The anticipated rainfall activity is likely to provide much-needed relief from the prevailing scorching heat and high humidity levels in the region. The IMD reported that a few places over CAP experienced rainfall between Saturday morning and Sunday morning, while dry weather conditions prevailed over the Rayalaseema region during this timeframe.
Recent Rainfall Data
Between Saturday and Sunday morning, Sompeta in Srikakulam district recorded the highest rainfall at 5 cm. This was followed by 2 cm each in Tekkali and Pathapatnam, and 1 cm each in Prathipadu (Kakinada), Chinturu (ASR), and Mandasa (Srikakulam). Parts of Tuni, Kakinada, Narsapur, and the ASR district also experienced thundershowers, while cloudy weather prevailed in Visakhapatnam.
Hottest Locations Recorded
On May 3, Nellore and Kurnool emerged as the hottest locations in Andhra Pradesh, recording maximum temperatures of 43.1 degrees Celsius. Other areas with high temperatures included Nandyal at 42.8°C, Kavali and Kadapa at 42.6°C each, Tirupati at 42.4°C, Ongole at 41.7°C, Anantapur and Jangamaheswarapuram at 41.5°C, Nandigama at 40.1°C, and Bapatla at 40°C.
Extended Forecast
The IMD has further forecast thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places over CAP, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on May 4 and May 7. Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions are likely to persist over NCAP and Yanam on May 4.
