Times News Network Kanpur: Rail welding and track laying work commenced on Tuesday on the elevated section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project’s Corridor-2 (CSA to Barra-8). This development follows significant progress in the underground section, marking a new phase in the project's construction.
Track Construction on Elevated Stretch
The activities began on the approximately 4.50 km long elevated stretch from Agricultural University to Barra-8, which is currently under construction. Track construction has already been progressing in the 4.10 km long underground section from Rawatpur to Double Pulia. The first phase of rail welding and track laying on the elevated section was carried out on the metro viaduct near Vijay Nagar Station, where metro rails are being laid systematically.
Upcoming Work and Safety Features
In the coming days, track slab casting for the ballast-less track system will also begin. This system ensures smooth and efficient train operations. Safety features such as derailment guards and the installation of the third rail for power supply will be incorporated as part of the track infrastructure. The ballast-less track system used in Kanpur Metro is designed to provide stability and reduce maintenance requirements.
Project Progress and Impact
The Kanpur Metro project is progressing steadily, with both underground and elevated sections seeing active construction. Once completed, the metro will significantly improve urban mobility in Kanpur, reducing travel time and congestion. The elevated section of Corridor-2 will connect key areas, enhancing accessibility for residents.
