In a significant breakthrough, the SIPCOT police in Krishnagiri district arrested a 28-year-old man from Kerala for allegedly smuggling approximately 170 grams of Methamphetamine and 10 narcotic pills. The incident occurred early on Saturday morning when a private bus traveling from Bengaluru to Coimbatore was stopped for a routine vehicle check at the Jujuwadi checkpoint in Hosur, near the Karnataka border.
Details of the Arrest
The accused has been identified as K Jyothis, a resident of Palakkad, Kerala. He was apprehended by Sub-Inspector of Police Ravichandran and Constable Murugan, who were on duty at the checkpoint. During the inspection, the officers became suspicious of Jyothis's behavior and decided to search his belongings. The search led to the seizure of the contraband, which is estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
Interrogation and Confession
During subsequent interrogation, Jyothis confessed that he had smuggled the drugs following instructions from a person named Santosh, also from Palakkad. Santosh, who resides in Madukkarai and works as a painter, was identified as the mastermind behind the smuggling operation. The police have registered a case and are further investigating the matter.
Legal Proceedings
The SIPCOT police have handed over both the arrested individual and the seized drugs to the Hosur Prohibition Enforcement Wing for further legal proceedings. The authorities are now probing the larger network involved in drug trafficking in the region. This arrest highlights the vigilance of the police force in curbing the illegal drug trade along the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border.
