Kolkata Societies Host Yoga for International Yoga Day

Kolkata housing societies are gearing up to celebrate International Day of Yoga on Sunday, June 21, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading a mass yoga event at Red Road. Community yoga sessions are being organized across the city to encourage resident participation.

Diamond City South in Tollygunge

Diamond City South will hold its annual group yoga session on Sunday. "Last year, we had 60-70 attendants. It was difficult to accommodate them all in the hall, but the event can’t be held outdoors due to the heat," said Pushpa Sinha, president of the committee. The society will begin preparing its community hall for the programme on Friday, June 19.

Silver Spring Complex Events

Silver Spring Complex will mark the day with two events. Around 50 residents are expected to attend the Red Road celebrations on Sunday morning. "Our building is invited there. We got an invitation from the KMC," said board member Ashok Baid. In the evening, the complex’s youth wing will organize a yoga session for children in the community hall. Commenting on the Red Road programme, Baid said, "It’s a promotion of yoga. It will encourage people to do yoga."
