Bijnor: Two women were injured after a leopard attacked a group of women collecting fodder for their cattle near Mahmoodpur Buzurg village of Nethaur in Bijnor district on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 9 am, sparking fear among local residents.
Details of the Attack
According to villagers, Neeta, 30, was gathering fodder in the fields along with other women when the leopard suddenly attacked her. Hearing her cries for help, the other women raised an alarm, which prompted the animal to flee. However, while escaping, the leopard attacked another woman, Najma, 50, causing serious injuries. Both injured women were immediately taken to the community health centre, where officials stated that their condition is stable.
Residents Express Concern
The attack has triggered widespread fear among residents, who expressed concern over the increasing movement of wild animals near inhabited areas. Many villagers rely on these fields for fodder and daily activities, and the incident has made them wary of venturing out alone.
Forest Department Response
Forest department officials arrived at the spot and examined leopard pugmarks in the area. Authorities have assured villagers that necessary measures are being taken to prevent further attacks. Bijnor Divisional Forest Officer Jai Singh Kushwah stated that a cage would be installed soon to capture the leopard and monitor its movement. Residents have been advised to remain cautious while working in fields and avoid isolated areas alone.
This incident highlights the growing human-wildlife conflict in the region, as leopards and other wild animals increasingly venture into human settlements in search of food. The forest department has urged people to report any sightings immediately and follow safety guidelines.
