Leopard Spotted Inside Residential Building in Shimla

A leopard was seen entering the premises of a residential building in the Totu area of Shimla, triggering panic among local residents. The incident occurred around 2:00 am on Monday, July 6, 2026, and was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the house owned by former Shimla Municipal Corporation Councillor Vivek Sharma. The video of the leopard roaming inside the building for a few minutes before leaving has gone viral on social media platforms.

Residents Demand Action from Forest Department

Locals have urged the Forest Department to install a cage in the area, citing frequent sightings of leopards. Residents expressed fear and said they are avoiding stepping out at night due to the risk of attacks. This is the second such incident in the state capital in recent weeks. On June 24, a leopard was spotted in the New Shimla area at night and was seen attacking a stray dog.

Earlier Leopard Sighting in Solan District

In a related incident on July 3, another leopard was found inside a washroom of a residential building in the Garkhal area of Solan district. That leopard was later rescued by the forest department. The repeated appearances of leopards in residential areas have heightened concerns about human-wildlife conflict in the region.
