A tragic incident occurred in the Golokganj area of Dhubri district on Wednesday afternoon when lightning struck, killing one person on the spot and leaving three students of Lakhimari High School with grievous injuries. In a separate incident in Lalkura village under Gauripur Police Station, seven cattle were killed by lightning.
Victim and Injuries
The deceased has been identified as Gopal Barman (32), a resident of the Balabari area in Golokganj town. The three injured students were rushed to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where their condition is reported to be critical, according to hospital sources.
Storm and Damage
A powerful pre-monsoon storm accompanied by torrential rain lashed Golokganj and adjoining areas, leaving a trail of devastation across several border villages. Harshajit Das, officer-in-charge of Golokganj Police Station, stated that almost all border villages located along the barbed-wire fencing were affected, including Lakhimari, Uttar Raipur, Bishkhowa, Kedar, and Kanuri. He added that during the 10-minute storm, roofs of several houses were blown away, while trees and electric poles were uprooted.
Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage and have urged residents to remain cautious as the region continues to experience severe weather conditions.
