Aishwin Kaur Selected for Asia Pacific Deaf Games
Ace table tennis player Aishwin Kaur, hailing from Ludhiana, has been named in the Indian contingent for the Asia Pacific Deaf Games, scheduled to take place in Penang, Malaysia, in October. The selection follows her outstanding performance in the national trials held in Bengaluru on July 4 and 5, where she secured the first position.
Overcoming a Rare Genetic Disorder
At the age of six, Aishwin was diagnosed with metachromatic leukodystrophy, a rare and incurable genetic disorder that causes progressive deterioration of mental and motor functions. Despite this challenge, she has consistently demonstrated remarkable determination and skill on the national circuit.
Previous Achievements and Future Goals
Aishwin has already brought laurels to the country, winning a silver medal in the women's team event and a bronze medal in the women's doubles at the previous edition of the Asia Pacific Deaf Games. Now, she aims to improve on that performance in Penang. Her latest achievement has brought pride to the state's sports fraternity, with coaches and well-wishers expressing confidence in her ability to add to India's medal tally.
Contingent Composition
Out of the eight players in the Indian contingent, six are from West Bengal. Aishwin is expected to be among India's strongest medal prospects at the continental event, which will bring together some of the finest deaf athletes from across Asia.
