Guwahati: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of establishing the country's first National Sports University (NSU) in the state is nearing completion, with the project expected to be finished by the end of this year.
CM Inspects Campus Progress
Singh visited the upcoming campus at Koutruk in Imphal West district, where he inspected ongoing construction and held a review meeting to assess progress. Officials informed the Chief Minister that the new campus will include 60 faculty residential units.
Addressing concerns raised by staff, Singh assured that work on the approach road would commence next week and that six borewells would be dug as a temporary measure to alleviate water shortages. He also pledged to deploy security personnel if necessary to ensure uninterrupted construction.
Vision for Sporting Excellence
Speaking to reporters later, Singh revealed that the university will have an intake capacity of approximately 1,300 students. He remarked, "This is a proud moment for Manipur and for India. The National Sports University is not just a project; it is a vision to make Manipur the hub of sporting excellence."
The NSU, conceived as a flagship initiative by Prime Minister Modi, is India's only dedicated sports university. Singh's visit underscored the state government's determination to fast-track the project and resolve logistical hurdles so that the institution can open its doors by year-end.
