Police officials in Mizoram's Saitual district seized 6.683 kilograms of morphine, estimated to be worth over Rs 6.68 crore, at the outskirts of Keifang town on Sunday and arrested three individuals from Assam, police said on Monday.
Details of the Seizure
The officials stopped a truck bearing Assam registration at the outskirts of Keifang. The vehicle was driven by Raju Giri (32), a resident of Bokajan CF, Karbi Anglong, Assam. During a thorough check, law enforcement discovered 6.683 kg of morphine, packed in 13 packets, concealed in a false compartment near the driver's seat. Additionally, 12 grams of heroin were also found and seized from the same truck.
Arrests Made
The police arrested two passengers of the vehicle: Karnamani Das (26) of Nagaon, Assam, and Ganesh Das (40) of Kamrup Metro, Assam. The truck was traveling from Manipur towards Aizawl at the time of the interception.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are investigating the source of the contraband and potential links to larger drug trafficking networks. The arrested individuals are being questioned, and further legal proceedings are underway.
This seizure marks a significant blow to drug smuggling operations in the region, highlighting the vigilance of Mizoram Police in curbing the illicit drug trade.
