The Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) is set to organize a 10-day mango fair in Bhubaneswar from May 30 to June 9, 2025. This event aims to provide a direct marketing platform for mango growers, enabling consumers to purchase quality fruits at reasonable prices without intermediaries.
Key Details of the Mango Fair
The fair will be held at four locations across the city: Saheed Nagar, Ekamra Park area, Gopabandhu Nagar, and Pokhariput. Visitors can expect a wide variety of mangoes, including popular types such as Amrapalli, Mallika, Dasheri, and Langra, as well as indigenous species. In addition to fresh mangoes, the fair will feature mango-based products like juice, shake, and ice cream, offering a unique experience for attendees.
Participation and Objectives
Satya Sundar Sibaram Paital, CEO (marketing) of ORMAS, highlighted that Farmer Producer Companies and women self-help groups are actively involved in the fair this year. He stated, “The objective is to strengthen market linkage for farmers and promote Odisha’s rich mango diversity.” Around 20 stalls will be set up at the venues, showcasing nearly 14 varieties of mangoes sourced from farmers and producer groups from 11 districts in Odisha.
Paital added that the inclusion of mango-based beverages and ice creams is expected to make the fair more attractive. He emphasized, “We are also focusing on hygienic display and better customer experience at all locations.”
Benefits for Farmers and Consumers
Officials noted that participating districts will bring farm-fresh mangoes directly to the stalls every day to maintain quality. The event is anticipated to help farmers secure better returns through direct sales while promoting local agricultural produce in urban markets. This initiative not only supports the local economy but also ensures that consumers have access to fresh, high-quality mangoes.
Preparations for the fair are already underway, with ORMAS working closely with farmers and producer groups to ensure a successful event. The mango fair is part of ongoing efforts to boost agricultural marketing and provide a platform for rural producers in Odisha.
