Strong Winds, Dust Storm Cause Power Outages in Noida and Ghaziabad
Power Outages Hit Noida and Ghaziabad After Dust Storm

Noida: Residents in several sectors of Noida and parts of Ghaziabad were left without electricity for several hours on Wednesday night and Thursday morning after strong winds and a dust storm triggered power outages due to overloading and transformer snags. Sectors 55, 71, 12, 51, and 100 in Noida, as well as areas such as Abhay Khand, Gyan Khand in Indirapuram, and parts of Vasundhara and Vaishali in Ghaziabad, experienced multiple, prolonged power outages on Thursday.

Residents Express Frustration

A resident of Sector 55, Sushil Pandey, said frequent power cuts occur quite often and highlight the poor state of the power infrastructure. “What makes these outages more inconvenient is that they happen mainly between 7am to 9am, when people are getting ready to go to work. The situation was no different on Thursday,” he said.

In Sector 71, Devender Nath Tiwari, a resident of Jagriti Apartments, expressed frustration over the lack of communication from electricity department officials on whether the cause for the outages was being addressed. He called for improved coordination between the electricity department and RWAs going forward.

Fire Incident in Sector 55

Dust storm-related incidents also led to a minor fire in Sector 55’s Block C. The fire began with a short circuit in an electric pole and spread to two vehicles parked on the adjacent road. RWA president of the sector, Satnarayan Goyal, told TOI that the fire department managed to put out the fire quickly. “Had that not happened, other cars parked on the lane would have caught fire too. We have written to UPPCL for compensation since their loose, overhead cable caught fire during the storm and damaged the cars,” he said.

Several other residents complained that the electricity issues have damaged expensive appliances in their homes.

Voltage Fluctuations in Sector 12

The president of the plot owners residents welfare association (PORWA) of Sector 12, Tarsem Chandra, said the area is experiencing serious fluctuations in voltage that have persisted for days. “The power keeps going on and off every 10 minutes. Due to these heavy fluctuations, household appliances like TVs and refrigerators are at risk of damage. In the past two days, the issue has only grown worse,” he said.

Ghaziabad Outages

In Ghaziabad, outages were reported from Gyan Khand 3, Vidhayak Colony, Green Park Lane, Abhay Khand, as well as parts of Vasundhara and Loni. An Indirapuram resident said there were 5 to 10 outages every day. A power department official from Gyan Khand 3 said they had identified the reason behind the power cuts and assured residents that they were addressing the problem and power would be restored soon. He also assured that outages affecting Green Park Lane in Gyan Khand 4, Vidhayak Colony, Nyay Khand 1, and Abhay Khand would also be restored by Thursday midnight.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest news and take precautions to protect their appliances during such outages.
