The first spell of heavy pre-monsoon rain brought widespread disruptions across Bardez taluka on Sunday. Accompanied by strong winds, the downpour led to multiple tree falls, disrupting traffic and causing extensive power outages.
Anjuna: Electricity Poles Tilt Dangerously
In Anjuna, intense rainfall caused soil erosion, resulting in two electricity poles tilting precariously over the main road. One pole bent completely toward the thoroughfare, effectively paralyzing local traffic. Traffic police quickly arrived at the scene to divert vehicles, while the electricity department deployed cranes to replace the damaged poles. As a precautionary measure, power supply to the entire area was temporarily disconnected.
Nagoa: Tree Crushes Parked Car
At Nagoa, a massive mango tree crashed onto a parked car near Grand Morrod. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Mapusa Fire Station Responds to Multiple Emergencies
The Mapusa fire station personnel were actively responding to emergency calls throughout the afternoon. At Khorlim, a tree collapsed onto a culvert near ward number 18. Shortly after, another tree crashed onto the main road at Eligio Colony in Madel, Tivim, temporarily blocking commuters. Later in the afternoon, fire personnel rushed to Bambordem in Moira, where a 'kazro' (strychnine) tree fell directly onto a residential house. Clear-up operations were promptly undertaken by fire and emergency services across all affected sites.
