Balasore: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a six-month pregnant woman and left her husband and mother-in-law seriously injured late Tuesday night on National Highway-18 near Gaddeulia Chowk under Baisinga police station limits in Mayurbhanj district.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Dipti Rekha Singh (32), daughter-in-law of former Special Development Council (SDC) vice-chairperson Kamala Tiria. Her unborn child also could not be saved in the accident.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, Dipti was traveling with her husband, Abhishek Tiria, and mother-in-law Kamala Tiria, returning to Baripada from Bhubaneswar after a medical consultation. Abhishek was driving the car (registration number OD11AA-8181), with Dipti seated beside him and Kamala in the rear seat.
The accident occurred around 11:30 pm when the vehicle reportedly rammed into a trailer truck parked along the roadside near Gaddeulia Chowk. The impact was so severe that the car went out of control and crashed into the road divider.
Injuries and Medical Response
Dipti Rekha Singh suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore, where doctors declared her dead. Sources confirmed she was six months pregnant at the time of the accident. Kamala Tiria and Abhishek Tiria also sustained serious injuries. While Kamala's condition is stated to be stable, Abhishek remains critical and is undergoing treatment.
Local residents rescued the injured and informed police soon after the mishap. Police from Baisinga station reached the spot, seized the damaged vehicle, and launched an investigation into the incident.
