Bathinda: Punjab reported 35 farm fire incidents on Monday, bringing the cumulative number of crop residue burning cases this season to 9,753. Among districts, Ferozepur remained the worst affected, recording the highest count of 919 farm fire cases up to May 25.
District-Wise Breakdown
Following Ferozepur, Moga reported at least 755 cases, while Bathinda registered 746 incidents. Other districts with significant numbers include Tarn Taran (714), Amritsar (705), Sangrur (692), Gurdaspur (641), Ludhiana (629), Muktsar (537), Fazilka (415), Patiala (413), Jalandhar (413), Faridkot (372), Mansa (349), Barnala (346), Kapurthala (344), Hoshiarpur (236), Malerkotla (170), SBS Nagar (145), and Fatehgarh Sahib (122). Three other districts reported fewer than 100 stubble burning cases.
National Scenario
On Monday, Madhya Pradesh reported 140 cases, while Uttar Pradesh and Haryana logged 26 and 5 cases, respectively. Out of the total 67,576 incidents recorded this season nationwide, 57% have been reported from Madhya Pradesh, which accounts for 38,701 cases.
Historical Data from CREAMS
According to the Consortium for Research on Agroecosystem Monitoring and Modeling from Space (CREAMS), Madhya Pradesh has contributed over 50% of crop residue burning cases in the last five years. Between 2022 and May 25, 2026, a total of 2,66,115 cases were reported nationwide, with Madhya Pradesh leading at 1,33,387, followed by Uttar Pradesh (61,659), Punjab (57,730), Haryana (13,158), and Delhi (181).
