Jaipur: Rajasthan continued to reel under an intense heatwave for the sixth consecutive day on Friday, with temperatures crossing 44 degrees Celsius in several parts of the state. The Meteorological Department reported no rainfall in the past 24 hours, exacerbating the dry and scorching conditions across the region.
Jaipur Records Season's Hottest Day
Jaipur experienced its hottest day of the season so far, with the relentless heat disrupting normal life. The maximum temperature in the capital city touched 41.8 degrees Celsius, which is 3.1 degrees above the normal average. The minimum temperature settled at a warm 28.5 degrees Celsius, providing little respite even during the night. The scorching conditions kept roads largely deserted during the peak afternoon hours as residents sought shelter indoors.
Hottest Locations in Rajasthan
Among the cities, Barmer recorded the highest temperature at 44.1 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest location in the state. It was followed by Sriganganagar at 43.9 degrees Celsius, Jaisalmer and Churu at 43.6 degrees Celsius each, Bikaner at 43.5 degrees Celsius, Pilani at 43.4 degrees Celsius, Jodhpur at 43.0 degrees Celsius, Kota at 42.0 degrees Celsius, Ajmer at 41.4 degrees Celsius, and Sikar at 40.5 degrees Celsius. Except for Udaipur and Sirohi, most areas across the state recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, with severe heatwave conditions prevailing in many districts.
Strain on Civic Infrastructure
The prolonged heatwave has begun to strain civic infrastructure. Areas such as Jhotwara, Murlipura, and parts of Sikar Road reported water shortages, while intermittent power cuts added to the woes of residents amid rising electricity demand. The increased usage of cooling appliances has put additional pressure on the power grid, leading to frequent outages in some localities.
Health Risks and Precautions
Health risks are also increasing, particularly for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers. Prolonged exposure to the intense heat raises the likelihood of dehydration and heatstroke. Health authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid going out during peak afternoon hours, and wear light clothing to mitigate the effects of the heatwave.
Weather Forecast and Relief
The Meteorological Office has forecast no immediate relief for Jaipur, with temperatures expected to hover around 42 degrees Celsius and clear skies prevailing over the next 24 hours. However, a western disturbance may bring slight respite around April 27, with chances of light rain or drizzle in parts of Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, and Bharatpur divisions. Officials warned that western Rajasthan may still see temperatures touching 45 degrees Celsius in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay prepared for the continued heatwave conditions and follow safety guidelines.
