Successive storms accompanied by torrential rain have caused widespread destruction across Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, and other areas of western Assam over the past two days. The severe weather has resulted in injuries, property damage, and agricultural loss.

Injuries and Damage in Chapar and Dhubri

In Chapar and neighboring regions of Dhubri district, 12 individuals sustained injuries when their homes were blown away by the powerful storm. Social activist Tilak Prasad reported to the Times of India that apart from structural damage to houses, the injured were immediately attended to. He added that Bilasipara legislator Jibesh Roy visited the affected areas to assess the situation and has assured government assistance for the victims.

The storms uprooted numerous trees, tore off tin roofs from buildings, and severely damaged paddy fields across the region. The full extent of the destruction is still being evaluated. A Dhubri district administration official confirmed that a team is currently assessing the damage and will provide a detailed report shortly.
