Tension prevailed in Herur village near Madikeri after a building was constructed in a tribal colony with the alleged intention of preaching Christianity to the local residents. The situation escalated when a dispute arose over the inauguration of the building, prompting police to rush to the spot and restore order.

According to villagers, some individuals from Tamil Nadu attempted to inaugurate the building, which they planned to use for teaching Christianity. The villagers, led by former Nakur Shirangala gram panchayat president Mandodi Jagannath, opposed the move and filed a complaint with the Suntikoppa police station.
Kushalnagar circle inspector Dinesh Kumar and Suntikoppa PSI Mohanraj arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Officials from the gram panchayat, including administrative officer Srikanth and development officer Asma, also inspected the site.
Allegations of Religious Conversion
Nakur Shirangala gram panchayat chief Jagannath accused the group of attempting religious conversion. He stated that the villagers initially believed a house was being constructed at the location, but later discovered it was being used to promote Christianity. He urged the social welfare department to take action against those involved.
The incident has raised concerns about religious activities in tribal areas, with locals demanding strict enforcement of laws against forced conversions. Authorities are investigating the matter further.
