The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP), Yanam, and Rayalaseema over the next few days, providing some relief from the ongoing heat. The weather office stated that thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated locations in CAP, Yanam, and Rayalaseema from May 15 to 18. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are expected during this period.
Temperature Outlook
According to IMD officials, there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures over CAP during the next three days. However, a gradual rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius is expected in the subsequent three days. For Rayalaseema, no major change in maximum temperatures is anticipated on Friday and Saturday. Despite the forecast, more than 20 districts in the state recorded poor pre-noon showers, leading to hot, humid, and uncomfortable weather conditions in parts of Rayalaseema and some areas of CAP over the past week.
Weather Systems in Place
The well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal persists over the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 kilometers above mean sea level. Conditions are becoming favorable for the advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of the South Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands around May 16.
Residents are advised to stay cautious during thunderstorm activity, as lightning and strong winds can pose risks. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as necessary.
