Tibetans gathered in large numbers in McLeodganj on July 6, 2026, to celebrate the 91st birthday of their spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama. The event was marked by prayers, chanting, and offerings at the Tsuglagkhang Temple complex, the main Tibetan Buddhist temple in the region.

Devotees offer prayers and seek blessings

Hundreds of Tibetan refugees and followers from around the world participated in the celebration. Monks led the chanting of sacred scriptures while devotees offered butter lamps, flowers, and khata (ceremonial scarves) at the temple. Many expressed their gratitude for the Dalai Lama’s teachings on peace and compassion.

According to a local Tibetan community leader, Tenzin Dorjee, “This is a day of great joy and reverence for all Tibetans. We pray for his long life and continued guidance.”
