The incident took place near the Phagwara road when the driver noticed flames emanating from the rear of the trolley. He immediately stopped the vehicle and alerted nearby residents, who rushed to help.
Firefighters Quickly Control Blaze
Upon receiving the information, a fire brigade team from the local municipal corporation arrived at the scene within minutes. The firefighters worked diligently to douse the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby fields or structures. The driver and passersby helped in controlling the situation before the fire could escalate.
No Casualties Reported
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. The driver managed to escape unharmed. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but initial investigations suggest a short circuit or a discarded cigarette butt might have triggered the blaze.
Paddy straw, often used as fodder or for mulching, is highly flammable. Farmers are advised to exercise caution while transporting such materials, especially during the dry season. The incident highlights the risks associated with improper handling of agricultural waste.
Local authorities have urged farmers to avoid burning crop residue and instead adopt eco-friendly disposal methods. The fire could have been more devastating if it had spread to the surrounding wheat fields, which are currently ready for harvest.
