In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, two sisters were arrested in Bijnor on Sunday evening for their alleged involvement in the illegal trade of smack. The accused, identified as Noori (30) and Tabassum (40), were taken into custody following a raid conducted under the Kotwali police station area.
Details of the Seizure
During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered approximately 112 grammes of smack, which is estimated to have a street value of nearly ₹1.5 lakh. Additionally, authorities seized ₹89,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the sale of narcotics. The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts to curb the drug menace in the region.
Legal Proceedings
Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Jha confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the sisters under sections 8 and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Kotwali City police station. Following their arrest, the accused were produced before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The legal process is moving forward as per prescribed norms.
Execution of the Raid
The successful raid was carried out by a specialized police team led by sub-inspectors Ankurpal and Mamta, along with other personnel. Their coordinated efforts led to the apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of the contraband and cash.
Investigation Underway
SP Jha stated that further legal proceedings are underway, and an investigation has been initiated to trace the supply source and the network involved in the narcotics trade. The police are working diligently to dismantle the drug trafficking chain operating in the area. The case serves as a warning to those engaged in illegal drug activities that law enforcement is vigilant and proactive.
