A two-year-old girl was mauled to death by stray dogs in Jhalawar district on Friday, sparking panic and anger among residents over the growing stray animal menace. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when the child, identified as Gauri, was sleeping with her father, Rajulal, and elder sister under a makeshift tent near Bhatia Showroom in Jhalawar city.
Details of the Attack
Police said a pack of approximately eight stray dogs allegedly lifted the child and dragged her nearly 50 meters away before attacking her. Her father, Rajulal, woke up after one of the dogs bit his finger and rushed to the spot, but the girl had already suffered fatal injuries. He took the child to SRG Hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
Background of the Family
Rajulal, a daily wage laborer from Baran district, had come to Jhalawar for his wife's delivery. His wife is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital after giving birth five days ago. The family was living in a makeshift tent near the showroom at the time of the incident.
Official Response
DSP Harshraj Singh confirmed the incident. He said the family declined a postmortem and took the body for burial. They later submitted a memorandum seeking compensation. District officials said the administration has directed the municipal council to take preventive measures and submit a report. A proposal has also been sent to the state government for compensation as per norms.
This tragic event has raised concerns about the safety of residents, especially children, in areas with high stray dog populations. Local residents have demanded immediate action to control the stray animal population and prevent such incidents in the future.
