In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Koiraina police along with the SWAT team arrested four members of an interstate smuggling gang in the Bhadohi district on Tuesday evening. The operation led to the seizure of 604.20 kilograms of illegal cannabis valued at approximately Rs 3.02 crore.
Details of the Seizure
The contraband was recovered from a four-wheeler vehicle and a truck container during a joint operation. According to Bhadohi Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhinav Tyagi, the police team apprehended the accused near Raiyapur village at Bhavapur Nahar Puliya. A case has been registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act and Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act against the arrested individuals.
Identification of the Accused
The arrested criminals have been identified as Trishul Jaiswal, a resident of Tikri in Prayagraj; Babu Ram Maurya, from Pawai in Azamgarh district; and Suren Dharai and Montu Sahu, both residents of Devgarh district in Odisha. Police revealed that a total of 14 cases, including those under the NDPS Act and other criminal charges, are already registered against Trishul Jaiswal.
Interrogation Findings
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had transported the cannabis from Odisha with the intention of selling it at higher prices to buyers in Bhadohi and surrounding districts based on demand. The police are investigating further to identify other members of the smuggling network and their clients.
This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the local police to curb the illegal drug trade in the region. Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to help maintain law and order.
