A tragic incident occurred in Prayagraj's old Naini bazar area on Tuesday night when a major fire broke out at a three-storeyed building, leading to the death of a 35-year-old woman due to suffocation, police officials confirmed.
Fire Incident Details
According to Chief Fire Officer (Prayagraj) Chandra Mohan, the fire originated on the first floor of the building, which also served as a plastic godown. The flames quickly spread to the upper floors, creating a hazardous situation for the occupants.
Rescue Operations
A joint team of firefighters and police personnel promptly arrived at the scene and launched rescue operations. They successfully evacuated 11 members of the family from the burning structure. However, one woman lost consciousness and could not be revived; she succumbed to suffocation caused by the thick smoke.
Chief Fire Officer Mohan stated: "Eleven members of the family were rescued by a joint team of firemen and police. However, one woman fainted and lost her life due to suffocation."
Investigation Underway
Department officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary assessments suggest that the presence of plastic materials in the godown may have accelerated the spread of the fire. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
The incident highlights the dangers of fire hazards in commercial-cum-residential buildings, especially those storing flammable materials. Authorities are urging strict adherence to fire safety norms to prevent such tragedies.
