A 45-year-old woman, Bagdi Bai, sustained severe injuries after a leopard attacked her while she was grazing her goats in Mauridikheda village under Dhamotar police station area in Pratapgarh district on Saturday.

Incident Details

According to locals, the woman attempted to protect her goats and threw a stone at the leopard. The animal then turned aggressive and attacked her, inflicting deep injuries on her hands, legs and abdomen. Despite sustaining serious injuries, the woman raised an alarm and resisted the attack.

A tractor driver passing through the area heard her cries and rushed to the spot. On hearing people approaching, the leopard fled into the nearby forest. Family members later reached the scene and took her to the district hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.

Forest Department Response

Following the incident, the forest department dispatched a team to monitor leopard movement in the area. Officials have advised villagers not to venture alone into forested areas and to remain vigilant.

The attack highlights the growing human-wildlife conflict in the region, as leopards often venture into villages in search of easy prey.
