2 Killed, 11 Hurt in UP Expressway Bus-Truck Crash

Kanpur: Two persons were killed and 11 others sustained injuries after a double-decker bus collided with a truck on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway near Kanpur's Bilhaur area early Monday morning. The bus, which was traveling from Patna to Delhi, crashed into the truck around 5:30 am near the Araul toll plaza in Bilhaur.

Impact and Rescue Operation

The force of the collision caused the truck to overturn, while the front portion of the bus was completely mangled. Several passengers were trapped inside the wreckage. Police teams, along with rescue personnel from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority, conducted a rescue operation. The injured were extricated from the vehicles and taken to the nearest community health centre. Three critically injured passengers were later referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital for advanced treatment.

Details of the Accident

The double-decker private bus was carrying 40 passengers at the time of the accident. According to preliminary investigations, the accident was caused by the bus driver dozing off. Assistant Commissioner of Police Manjay Singh stated, "Police probe suggests the bus was travelling at over 100 kilometres per hour at the time of the crash."

Cranes and other heavy machinery were deployed to remove the damaged vehicles from the expressway, after which traffic movement was restored. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examination.
