250 Indian Jews from Northeast Reach Israel, 1,200 More by 2026

A group of 250 Indian Jews from the northeastern region of India has arrived in Israel, marking the latest wave of immigration from the community. According to reports, an additional 1,200 individuals are expected to reach Israel by the end of 2026.

Decades of Migration

Over the past three decades, approximately 4,000 members of the Indian Jewish community have immigrated to Israel. The community, primarily from states such as Manipur and Mizoram, traces its roots to the Bnei Menashe, who claim descent from one of the lost tribes of Israel. Many have undergone conversion to Judaism before making the journey.

Future Plans and Community Outlook

With around 6,000 more individuals waiting to immigrate, the process is expected to continue in phases. The Israeli government has facilitated these moves through its Law of Return, which grants citizenship to people of Jewish descent. The integration of these immigrants into Israeli society remains a focus, with support from local Jewish agencies.
