In a devastating incident that has left the community in mourning, six children lost their lives when an overloaded boat capsized in the Ghaghra River in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
The tragedy unfolded when approximately 15 children, all residents of nearby villages, were crossing the river on what local authorities described as a dangerously overcrowded vessel. The boat, which lacked proper safety equipment and was clearly beyond its capacity, succumbed to the strong river currents.

Local fishermen and villagers were the first to respond to the emergency, launching immediate rescue efforts upon hearing the children's cries for help. The District Administration quickly mobilized disaster response teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), to assist in the search and rescue operation.
"The boat was carrying far more passengers than its capacity," confirmed a senior police official from Bahraich. "We have recovered six bodies so far, and search operations continue for the remaining missing children."
