At least eight people were killed and 10 others sustained injuries in a tragic head-on collision between two luxury buses in Maharashtra's Nashik district on Tuesday morning. The accident took place around 5:30 AM on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway near the village of Pimpalgaon.
Details of the accident
According to police officials, one bus was traveling from Mumbai to Nashik, while the other was en route from Nashik to Mumbai. The collision was so severe that the front portions of both buses were completely mangled, trapping several passengers inside. Rescue teams, including local police and fire brigade personnel, reached the spot and extricated the victims. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals in Nashik and surrounding areas.
Victims and rescue operations
Among the deceased, five were from the Mumbai-bound bus and three from the Nashik-bound bus. The injured include 10 passengers with serious injuries, who are currently undergoing treatment at a civil hospital in Nashik. District authorities have announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The cause of the accident is being investigated, but preliminary reports suggest overspeeding and foggy conditions may have contributed to the crash.
