Bengaluru Yellow Alert: Heavy Pre-Monsoon Rains, Gusty Winds

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru, forecasting heavy pre-monsoon showers and gusty winds for the next three days. According to N Puviarasan, Head of the IMD Bengaluru Centre, a high moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea and shifting wind patterns have created atmospheric instability highly favourable for severe weather.

Weather Conditions and Impact

The IMD predicts that Bengaluru will experience intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds, potentially leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak storm hours and avoid low-lying areas. The yellow alert serves as a warning for possible thunderstorms and lightning strikes.

Cause of the Severe Weather

Puviarasan explained that the combination of moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea and a change in wind direction has led to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds. This atmospheric instability is typical of pre-monsoon seasons but is expected to be more intense this time.
