Patna: Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, on Saturday inaugurated the ASHA (automated solar-powered high-efficiency irrigation water application) scheme, estimated to cost Rs12.34 crore, at Kalyanpur village in Paliganj block of Patna district. He also marked the commencement of construction work on a Rs100 crore road project on the left embankment-cum-Sone protection embankment of the Patna main canal in Arwal district.
Details of the ASHA Scheme
The ASHA initiative, under the water resources department (WRD), is designed to promote advanced irrigation technology while providing enhanced facilities to farmers. It aims to strengthen water conservation and improve energy efficiency in agricultural practices. Deputy CM Choudhary emphasized the government's commitment to the comprehensive development of the agriculture and irrigation sector in Bihar, stating, "Our commitment to the overall development of the agriculture and irrigation sector in Bihar continues unabated."
Road Project to Boost Connectivity
The road project, with an investment of Rs100 crore, is expected to give new momentum to development by improving connectivity in the region. The project is part of broader infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth.
Impact on Farmers and Agriculture
Farmers in the region are expected to benefit significantly from the ASHA scheme, which utilizes solar-powered irrigation systems. This technology reduces reliance on conventional energy sources and lowers operational costs, making irrigation more sustainable and efficient. The initiative also supports water conservation efforts, crucial for agricultural productivity in the state.
