BSF and Punjab Police Joint Operation Yields Major Drug Seizure
In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police jointly seized over 6 kilograms of heroin near the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar district. The operation took place in the early hours of Tuesday, when security forces intercepted a suspicious movement along the border fence.
Details of the Seizure
The contraband, worth crores of rupees in the international market, was found concealed in a black bag. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the BSF and Punjab Police launched a coordinated search operation in the border area. The bag was discovered near a village close to the fence, indicating an attempt to smuggle the drugs into Indian territory.
Officials confirmed that the heroin is of high purity and is believed to have originated from across the border. The seizure is a major blow to drug cartels operating in the region. No arrests have been made so far, but investigations are underway to trace the intended recipients.
Rising Concerns Over Drug Trafficking
The Indo-Pak border has been a hotspot for drug smuggling, with heroin and other narcotics frequently intercepted by security forces. This seizure underscores the persistent efforts of the BSF and Punjab Police to curb the illegal drug trade. The authorities have heightened surveillance along the border and are working to dismantle the supply chain.
Local residents have expressed relief over the successful operation, as drug abuse has been a growing concern in Punjab. The state government has also lauded the security forces for their vigilance. Further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprits involved in this smuggling attempt.
