Chandumajra Calls for United Struggle for Punjab's Crises

Patiala: Prem Singh Chandumajra, a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Punarsurjit) and former Member of Parliament, on Wednesday called for all Punjabis to come together in a united struggle to pull Punjab and the Sikh community out of the deep crises they are facing.

Call for Unified Voice

Addressing mediapersons here, Chandumajra emphasized that people must raise a united voice to make both the central and state governments aware of the issues and rights concerning Punjab. He stressed that collective action is essential to address the challenges confronting the state and the community.

Concerns Over Religious Legislation

Chandumajra urged all panthic groups and organizations to build consensus to remove doubts and controversies regarding the 'Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment Act 2026)'. He alleged that the law framed by the state government is proving divisive for the Sikh community and is creating internal conflict among Sikhs.

  • A special economic package for the state
  • Issues related to agriculture

Upcoming Actions and Demands

Chandumajra informed that memorandums regarding these issues would be submitted to district authorities across Punjab on June 1 and 2. Demands will also be raised for the reopening of trade through the Attari-Wagah border, waiver of farmers' loans from cooperative banks, and a legal guarantee for government procurement of 23 crops.

Thereafter, a high-level delegation will meet the Punjab governor and the Union home minister to apprise them of the issues concerning Punjab and the Sikh community, Chandumajra added. He also appealed to all Akali parties and panthic organizations in Punjab to join the campaign.
