Indian Coast Guard Executes Daring Rescue: 31 Fishermen Saved After 11 Days Adrift Near Mangaluru
Coast Guard Rescues 31 Fishermen After 11 Days Adrift

In a remarkable display of maritime prowess, the Indian Coast Guard has successfully rescued 31 fishermen who spent eleven harrowing days adrift in the Arabian Sea after their fishing vessel experienced catastrophic engine failure.

The Perilous Journey Begins

The fishing boat Suvarna Tribuja had embarked on what should have been a routine fishing expedition from Mangaluru. However, disaster struck when the vessel's engine failed completely, leaving the crew powerless against the relentless sea currents. For nearly two weeks, the fishermen battled exhaustion, dehydration, and uncertainty as their boat drifted helplessly further into open waters.

Coast Guard Springs into Action

Alerted about the missing vessel and the growing concern for the fishermen's safety, the Indian Coast Guard immediately launched Operation Sea Rescue. Multiple ships and aircraft were deployed to scan the vast search area, battling challenging weather conditions and poor visibility.

After an intensive search operation covering hundreds of nautical miles, the Coast Guard vessel ICGS Amartya finally located the distressed fishing boat approximately 118 nautical miles from the Mangaluru coast. The relief on both sides was palpable as rescuers confirmed all 31 crew members were alive, though visibly exhausted from their ordeal.

Miraculous Survival Against All Odds

What makes this rescue particularly remarkable is the duration of their survival - eleven days without mechanical power or means of communication in open waters. The fishermen had limited supplies and were completely at the mercy of ocean currents until the Coast Guard's timely intervention.

All rescued fishermen received immediate medical attention aboard the Coast Guard vessel and were found to be in stable condition despite their prolonged exposure to the elements and psychological stress.

Heroes of the Sea

This successful operation highlights the exceptional preparedness and capability of the Indian Coast Guard in handling maritime emergencies. Their swift response and determined search efforts turned what could have been a tragedy into a story of hope and survival.

The fishermen have since been safely returned to Mangaluru, reuniting with their anxious families who had been praying for their safe return throughout the eleven-day ordeal.
