Controlled Water Release from Chapoli Reservoir for Summer

Canacona: Water resource department officials announced that raw water is being released from the Chapoli reservoir in a controlled manner to ensure water availability during the summer season.

Controlled Release Measures

Assistant engineer Dhananjay Nagvekar stated, “Water released from Chapoli reservoir and the irrigation dam at Gaunem, Canacona, is controlled in all aspects.” He emphasized that the department has implemented measures to meet the water demand effectively.

Daily Water Supply

According to Nagvekar, 10 million litres per day (MLD) of water is supplied from Chapoli dam for household use, while an additional 3 MLD is allocated for irrigation. The irrigated areas include Nagorcem, Palolem, and Gulem.

Dam Storage Levels

As of Monday, the Chapoli dam holds a storage capacity of 603.2 hectare-metres, with a reduced level of 32.9 metres. Meanwhile, the Gaunem irrigation dam stores 108 hectare-metres, with a reduced level of 59.3 metres. The Gaunem dam supplies water to the Ordhofond pumping station.

These controlled releases are part of proactive measures to maintain water supply throughout the summer months, ensuring that both domestic and agricultural needs are met.
