New Delhi: The national capital witnessed a refreshing shift in weather conditions on Thursday, offering much-needed respite from the intense heat that had been prevailing. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert, predicting a wet spell across northwest India until June 13, influenced by a western disturbance.
IMD Warning and Forecast
According to the IMD, "Under the influence of western disturbance, a wet spell is likely over northwest India till 13th, with the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, and hailstorms on June 11th and 12th, 2026." Earlier this week, parts of Delhi-NCR experienced rainfall after a prolonged period of scorching temperatures. The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity will expand across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan between June 10 and June 14.
Impact of Western Disturbance
The weather department has also noted that a fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayan region starting June 11, leading to widespread changes in weather conditions. This system is likely to bring further precipitation and cooler temperatures to the affected areas.
Residents are advised to stay alert for potential thunderstorms and gusty winds, especially on June 11 and 12. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
