Residents of Dhoka Mohalla in Ludhiana are grappling with the intrusion of dirty water from a seasonal drain into their streets, even before the onset of the monsoon season. This recurring issue has sparked significant health and sanitation concerns among the local community.
Recurring Problem Before Monsoon
The situation has become a pre-monsoon nightmare for the residents. The seasonal drain, which typically overflows during heavy rains, has already started releasing contaminated water into the residential area. This early flooding has disrupted daily life and raised fears of waterborne diseases.
Health and Sanitation Concerns
Local residents have expressed their frustration over the lack of preventive measures by municipal authorities. The stagnant dirty water has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of dengue and malaria. Moreover, the foul smell and unhygienic conditions have made it difficult for people to step out of their homes.
One resident stated, "We have been complaining to the municipal corporation for years, but no action has been taken. Every year, we face the same problem, and this time it has started even before the monsoon."
Call for Immediate Action
The residents are demanding immediate intervention from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to clean and desilt the drain before the monsoon intensifies. They also seek a long-term solution to prevent such flooding in the future.
As the monsoon season approaches, the situation in Dhoka Mohalla highlights the urgent need for better drainage infrastructure and proactive maintenance to protect vulnerable communities from health hazards and property damage.
