In view of upcoming infrastructure upgrades, the East Central Railway (ECR) has announced temporary diversion of at least three pairs of passenger trains operating under its jurisdiction. The changes will be in effect from May 13 to 27 due to yard remodelling and non-interlocking work on the Ayodhya Cantt-Akbarpur-Jafarabad rail section under Lucknow division of the Northern Railway (NR).
Details of the Diversion
ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra said the maintenance work is part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, safety and capacity increase on the busy route. During this period, train services passing through the affected section will be rerouted to avoid disruption. He added that the following trains will be diverted via the Aunrihar Junction-Varanasi City-Varanasi Junction-Prayagraj-Manikpur route instead of their usual path:
- Barauni-Gondia Express (15231/15232)
- Valsad-Muzaffarpur Express (19051/19052)
- Raxaul-Anand Vihar Express (14017/14018)
Impact on Passengers
Railway authorities have advised passengers to check updated schedules and route information before commencing their journeys. While efforts are being made to minimise inconveniences, slight delays and changes in arrival or departure timings may occur due to the diversions. Railway sources said the ECR has assured that the temporary measures are necessary to facilitate long-term improvements in rail infrastructure and ensure smoother operations in the future.
Passengers can check their train schedules on the official Indian Railways website or through the IRCTC app. For further assistance, they may contact the railway enquiry helpline.
