At least eight people were killed and two others critically injured after a van collided head-on with a truck on the Sisaiya-Lakhimpur national highway in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district on Monday, police said.

The accident took place between Unchgaon and Bharehta villages while the van was traveling from Lakhimpur to Sisaiya, according to news agency PTI. The collision occurred on the national highway, which connects the district headquarters to other parts of the region.

Circle Officer of Dhaurahra, Shamsher Bahadur Singh, confirmed the incident and said that the injured were immediately rushed to the district hospital for medical treatment. Rescue operations were conducted swiftly by local authorities and police personnel.
