An elderly Sikh man was assaulted by a youth who shouted racist slurs, including 'get out of my country,' in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. The Woodstock Police are investigating the incident as a hate-motivated assault.
Details of the Incident
The attack occurred on April 22 when the elderly man was walking along a sidewalk. The youth approached him, shoved him, and yelled racially charged comments and obscenities. The police stated that the youth targeted the victim based on his ethnicity. Fortunately, the victim was not physically injured.
The investigation revealed that the youth unprovokedly assaulted the man. After the assault, the youth jumped a fence into the Turtle Island School property before leaving the area. No students were harmed during the incident.
Arrest and Charges
The youth was arrested following the hate-motivated assault and was held in custody for a bail hearing. The police are aware that videos of the incident have been circulating on social media, showing the youth repeatedly shouting racist abuse, including 'What the... are you doing in my country?' and 'You ain't from here, get the... out of my country.'
