In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, a 21-year-old man lost his life after being attacked by an elephant in Balijuri village, located in the East Singhbhum district of Jamshedpur. The victim, identified as Abhishek Mandi from Madotulia village, was out on a morning walk in a forested region when the fatal encounter occurred, according to statements from forest officials.

Discovery and Immediate Response

Villagers later stumbled upon the body, with clear elephant footprints visible in the soil surrounding the scene. They promptly alerted both forest authorities and local police, initiating a swift response. The forest officials transported the body to a government hospital for an autopsy, while an investigation into the circumstances of the attack is currently ongoing.

Compensation and Official Statement

Musaboni range forester Sukhram Sabar provided details on the compensation process, stating, "An ex gratia payment of Rs 50,000 has been handed over to the bereaved family to assist with the last rites. The remaining amount will be disbursed after the completion of necessary legal documentation." This gesture aims to support the family during this difficult time.

  • On February 17, 2026, a 68-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant at Bengadia village.
  • On August 25, 2025, a 35-year-old villager was killed in Balijuri village.
  • On March 24, 2025, a 44-year-old villager lost his life in a similar attack at Maachbhandar village.
