A massive fire erupted at the fruit market in Kapurthala, Punjab, in the early hours of Wednesday, completely destroying seven shops. The blaze, which started around 2:30 am, quickly spread due to the presence of wooden crates and other flammable materials in the market.
Swift Response by Fire Department
Upon receiving information, fire tenders from Kapurthala and nearby areas rushed to the scene. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before bringing the situation under control. Officials confirmed that no casualties were reported as the market was largely empty at the time of the incident.
Cause Under Investigation
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit may have triggered the blaze, but authorities have not ruled out other possibilities. The affected shop owners suffered heavy losses, with perishable goods and infrastructure destroyed.
Local residents and traders expressed concern over the lack of adequate fire safety measures in the market. They demanded better fire prevention systems to avoid such incidents in the future. Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
